Project Financing

Our intention is to establish a support structure which can deliver an energy access programme to 10,000 households over a five-year period.

Working with rural communities we would estimate that we would support an average of 250 households per community, so to achieve our target we aim to work with 40 communities over a five-year period.

This programme will then provide the basis for scaling to all rural communities in South Africa on an accelerated basis.

With support of the South African Government, KZN and Eastern Cape Provinces we would like to secure funds from the Just Transition programme which is financed by the EU and US to deliver our projects. We would be looking for financing of R400m.

In order to secure external funding a proof-of-concept project needs to be funded in partnership with a local municipality, we would require a budget of R15m to support the proof-of-concept project.

The projects will be locally sustainable through payments made by households, equivalent to the cost of electricity from the grid.
